April 23 - May 6, 2024 - Textile Quest, Morocco Trip

TEXTILE QUEST, Morocco trip

April 23 - May 6, 2024 (Morocco)

A 2-week immersive trip with textiles as a key to discover Morocco’s rich history, vibrant present, skilled artisans, local communities and magnificent landscapes. We will engage with six to eight Moroccan textile cooperatives, one women’s center, eight individual project collaborators, dozens of artisans via studio visits, one artist residency and government artisan school, two scholarly presenters and three workshops. This intimate and community-led venture is an amazing opportunity to exchange knowledge, create meaningful connections and engage with crafts people, community leaders and collectives.

DATES: April 23 – May 6, 2024

PRICING AND PAYMENT: 2990€ per person, based on a twin room, or a supplement of 400€ for single room. The trip price can be paid in full or in three separate installments.

WHAT’S INCLUDED?

  • A rich program of engagement

  • In-country transportation: we will travel overland in a comfortable touristic minibus stopping at carefully selected lodgings. We travel at a reasonable pace to unpack and explore as well as see and experience diverse landscapes and subcultures.

  • Entrance to museums

  • Support: We will have local and foreign tour leaders accompanying the group.

  • Breakfast is included, with vegan and vegetarian options. There are occasional lunches and evening meals included in the itinerary, however most midday and evening meals are not included in the price. We have found that many people like to make their own arrangements, to explore culinary offerings or dietary requirements. We often recommend restaurants that we can escort guests to. Food is ample in Morocco and Moroccan hospitality never lets a stomach rest. Textile Quest assures a feast for all the senses, not only the taste buds.

  • Accommodation: Textile Quest accommodates you in a variety of comfortable lodgings including carefully selected hotels, ecolodges, traditional Moroccan riads and, on occasion, apartments. Rates are based on twin shares, respecting gender or previously bonded friendships. We travel as a group and leave with a camaraderie.

 WHAT’S NOT INCLUDED?

  • Flights

  • Compulsory personal travel insurance

ARE YOU WELL SUITED?

  • A good grasp of the English language is necessary to understand and participate in the activities.

  • You will need to be reasonably fit as we will explore ancient car-free cities on foot and occasionally roam the landscapes.

  • Well-traveled and used to the quirks of culture clashes and occasional surprises by road travel.

  • Morocco curious and open to participate in dialogue and community gatherings with locals and foreign people.

  • There is no need to be a crafts practitioner. The occasional hands-on activity is designed as an engagement and knowledge-sharing tool, and not necessarily for technical development. You need not have an interest in the craft but more in what it reveals about the people and culture of Morocco. At the same time, you are welcome to step aside and take in the surroundings at a nearby cafe.
